How to reset your Password:

A very common problem that Apple users face is actually remembering their password to their Apple Store account. Apple store is very necessary for downloading and updating apps. The instructions on resetting your password varies based on the type of security that you have for you Apple Id. 

For Email, Password, and Security Questions:

Step 1: Go to your Apple ID account page and find “Forgot Apple ID or password.”.  It may ask you to confirm your phone number, if that is the case, use steps for two-factor authentication.

Step 2: Enter your Apple ID. ‘Did you forget your Apple ID’

Step 3: Choose the option to reset your password and click continue.

Step 4: It will give you the option on how to reset your password. 
Option 1: “Answer security questions” and follow the steps that follow.
Option 2: “Get an Email” – To reset your password it will send to your primary or rescue email address.
(A Recovery Key may be asked for, if that is the case use the steps for two-factor authentication or two step verification.)
Once your password is reset, you will have to sing in again with your new password and may need to update your password in Settings.


Two-Factor authentication:

Two-Factor authentication is an extra layer of security that requires not only a password and username but also a piece of information that they should only know.
If you are dealing with a two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID, you are able to reset your password from any trusted iPhone, iPad, Pod touch or Mac with a password or passcode that’s enabled.

Resetting Password on iPhone, iPad, or iPod:
Step 1: Device must have iOS 10 or later.

Step 2: Go to settings and tap your name à Password & Security à Change Password. Steps will pop up that you will have to follow to update your password.

If you have trouble with the listed steps above, you might have to sign into iCloud by opening settings and tapping on “Sign in to your (whatever device it is” à “Don’t have an Apple ID or forgot,” and steps that you will need to follow will show up.


Resetting Password on Mac:
Step 1: Go to Apple Menu à System Preferences, then click iCloud.
Step 2: Select Account Details
Step 3: If the option to enter apple ID password appears, click on “Forgot Apple ID or password” and follow the steps that follow and skip the steps that follow this.
Step 4: Select Security à Reset Password. It will require your Apple ID password and you will be required to enter the password to unlock the mac.
Using a Recovery Key:
If your Apple ID has been updated from a two-step verification to two-factor authentication in iOS 11 and later, or macOS High Sierra and later and you can use a recovery key to help reset your password.
If you can’t access any of your devices:
Step 1: Use someone’s iPhone, iPad, or iPod
Step 2: Open the Find My iPhone app
Step 3: Delete any name in the Apple ID field
Step 4: Select Forgot Apple ID or Password and follow the steps.
Two-step verification:
Step 1: Go to Apple ID account page and select “Forgot Apple ID or password”. (If it asks for your phone number, use steps for two-factor authentication)
Step 2: Enter your Apple ID and select reset your password and continue.
Step 3: Enter the Recovery Key for two-step verificaiton
Step 4: Select a device to sedn a verification code to.
Step 5: Enter the verification code
Step 6: Create a new password and then select reset password

Step 7: Once your password is reset, sign in again with your new password. 

Key Terms:


Password: Secret word or phrase that must be used to gain admission to something.

Apple ID: Is single sign-on service that assists authentication in products and the online services of Apple In., (iWork, iCloud, iTunes Store, and Apple Store) using a customers's existing email address from any email provider.
Reset: Set again or differently.
Security Questions: Used as an authenticatior as an extra security later. Comprised of shared secrets.

Recovery Key: If you lose your password, you enter the Recovery Key and get a message on a trusted device. 
Two-Factor Authentication: An extra layer of security that required not only a password and username but also a piece of information they they should only know. Two Step Verification: You add an extra layer of security to your account. You sign in with something you know and something you have. 
Settings: Control everything from the way your iPhone works to the data it shares with apps and other devices.
