How To Reset iPhones/iPads

One of the most common struggles that the average Apple user face is having to reset or reboot their iPhone or iPad. The reasons for rebooting your phone varies from the touch attribute not responding (which leads to a frozen screen that will not advance any further).  You will often see that you cannot swipe on your screen or your screen just stops completely where clicking on any button leads to nothing. A very common problem I often faced was my resetting back to the Apple grey home screen and would just loop back there when restarting with no advancement. Problems like this will result in you having to force reboot the device which is a solution you can do on your own and only takes a few seconds of your time.

 Restarting iPhone, iPad:

When your iPhone or iPad isn’t being responsive, you may need to forcibly restart it and here are the steps you would want to take in order to get rid of their troubleshooting dilemma.

Step 1: Find and press the Power/Lock button on the device (often located at either the top or the right side of the device)

Step 2: Find and press the Home button on the device (at the bottom middle of the device)

Step 3: Press and hold both the Power and Home buttons simultaneously until the device restarts by itself which usually takes about 10 seconds followed by the Apple logo appearing on the screen.

This process is often referred to as a hard reboot or hard rest which helps with various amounts of problems that the iphone may have such as; apps not working, frozen phone/device, etc. The force restart works for mostly all models of iPad and iPhones except for iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X.

Force Restarting iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X:

Rebooting an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus requires you to press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons for at least 10 seconds, restarting an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus takes three steps. This change was made due to the previous pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and one of the Volume buttons, activates the Emergency SOS feature and the Sleep/Wake button is now referred to as the side button.

Step 1: Press and quickly let go of the Volume Up button.

Step 2: Press and quickly let go of the Volume Down button.

Step 3: Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo pops up.
